 A KRAKEN BIO

“News, it’s in my blood”. As a young college student, majoring in Theater Arts with a minor in Journalism, I discovered a class my Sophomore year called “Introduction to Radio and Television.”  The rest they say is history.

While still in college I applied for a part-time weekend shift at a daytime only radio station in my hometown.  I was offered a full-time position and made the decision to leave school after Winter term and entered the world of employment.

It was a country station and I started there doing news in the morning and afternoons as an on air personality.  Working in mostly small markets, I seemed to often end up doing news to some degree.  Many times it was news full time, covering meetings, events, interviewing prominent individuals, Politicians, sports figures, local celebrities, etc.  I loved the challenge and especially loved looking for and finding local news stories.

I had really great mentors who not only taught me how to write but also how to tell stories.  After many years in radio and at the time working as News Director in Napa, California, I applied for a job in Southern Oregon.  It turned out to be a job at a Television Station (KOTI-TV) in Klamath Falls, Oregon.  It was a tremendous opportunity and I fell in love with the area and people.

That was my introduction to Oregon and Television News.  Following that wonderful experience and more television news in the Tri-Cities, Washington, I returned to radio.  Again, in addition to on air work, sales, promotions and sometimes management, I would find myself gathering, writing and anchoring newscasts.

So, it’s really no surprise to find myself on Oregon’s Central Coast doing news for Yaquina Bay Communication.

The challenges ahead are to give you, the listener, local news, regional stories and coverage of State and National news that affect all of us.  Every day I work to find new stories to share and fill every newscast with news stories that are interesting and hopefully important to you.

When I’m not at work I’m usually taking a nap or spending time with family and my dog Radio.  I love living on the coast, photography, eating at local restaurants and attending local events, sports events, concerts and theatrical performances.

Thanks for listening.  If you have a story idea or a suggestion for Hotline, please send me an email at news@ybcradio.com.
